CEO:

SUCCESSION PLANNING IN NEWLY ACQUIRED B2B FIRM

Challenge

  • After acquiring this strong but mature company from its founding family, our client, a private equity firm, planned to identify new growth opportunities, professionalize business functions, and increase efficiency.

  • In preparing for the company’s next chapter, our client turned to us to recruit a new CEO with the skills and expertise needed to strengthen operations and open up new sales channels.

Approach

  • Through interviews with senior management, investors, customers, and current and former employees, we developed insights about what the company needed to grow and defined detailed search criteria to identify the type of leader best suited to address those needs.

  • We then mined our well-developed executive networks for candidates with vision, decisive leadership, and technical skills who would match the company’s culture while inspiring and capitalizing on the strengths of the existing team.

Outcome

  • In far less time than anticipated, we found the right candidate with the leadership abilities which, together with a comfortable cultural fit, has been critical for success in this role.

  • As our client put it, “The CEO is becoming the strongest of any in our portfolio of companies. From day one, the CEO established control, demonstrated clear, concise decision-making and was rewarded with the senior management team’s support.”
